Page Three Girls: The Return to Deptford

The inaugural show at Utrophia's new home, the former the job centre on Deptford High Street, takes place tonight.
It's a group show featuring many who have taken part in Utrophia projects in the old space and earlier.
I'm showing a week of page three girls from a couple of weeks back.
I think the show is on for about a month...so please come and have a look if you're in the area.

Saturday 30th July, 11.00 - 5.00pm - One Day Event

On Saturday The Coelacanth Press has a stall at the event below - featuring a new zine by Phoebe & Ed Webb-Ingall called Strangers in a Zine! A fanzine about Patrica Highsmith.

One DAY Event at Bloomberg SPACE will provide a platform for the display, reading, exchanging and distributing of publications.

The social aspect of the dissemination of artist’s books is an often overlooked aspect of the reality of artists publishing. This event will provide a setting where presentations and exchanges can take place. A variety of people; publishers, librarians, collectors, artists and curators involved in artists publishing will attend. A catalogue of the publications on display will be produced as a memento mori of the event.

Free, but booking advised at gallery@bloombergspace.com

Chain Letter opening July 16th

Chain Letter is a global group show wherein 10 artists have been invited to participate. Those 10 then invite 10 artists that they admire. Those 10 invite 10 more and so on. This cycle continues for 30 days. The result is an exponentially massive, artist-curated group show based entirely on admiration.
For more info, visit: http://chainletter2011.com

I'm taking part in this show, thanks to an invitation from an artist I admire, Oriana Fox.

Player's Please / A E Barrow Shop, London E5

I chanced upon these oversized chewing-gums in the window of this abandoned newsagent a couple of years ago and sat down in the gutter to paint a picture of them.
The old man who lived there (who I now know to be called Mr Robinson) poked his head out of the door and I waved at him, but we didn't speak to each other. I met many passers-by and chatted to schoolchildren on their way home who came up to see what I was doing.
He has since died and the chewing gums disappeared, perhaps stolen by looters.
This weekend, however, the shop is going to be open for the first time in years and there's an exhibition on by Des Hughes.
I'm going to show a print of my painting there, in the back room where they are also showing some local photographer's work.

Art Auction this Friday

Bonjour jeune homme.

I am auctioning two of my recent drawings this Friday, at the Phunzira Art Auction. It's this Friday 8th July at St.Mary's Church Hall, Church Street, Twickenham, TW1 3NJ (MAP)
Entry is free, and all funds raised go to the charity Phunzira.
Phunzira's mission statement is

To help provide both academic and non-academic educational assistance to impoverished children and adults in the north of Malawi.

I became involved as my good friend Dan is working in Malawi at the moment building the school ("Not that one," he said, before he left.)
